Delivery Management at Discngine, the key to make an IT project a success

Delays, functionality, and ergonomics problems, poor choice of technologies, security flaws... When it comes to IT projects, the list of potential problems can be long, very long.

At Discngine, we develop software and bespoke solutions for scientific data management, visual analytics, and decision-making processes destined to R&D divisions in the Life Science industry.
We have a track record of successful project completions, and we think our approach to delivery management makes a difference.

What is Delivery Management?

Delivery Management and the successful completion of a project relies on the ability to deliver the right solution, which meets customers’ expectations within predefined constraints.

Delivery management involves many activities that need to be properly executed and coordinated during the entire duration of the project.
These activities include:

  • Identifying requirements. Together, we need to understand the actual problem to solve, which is often hidden under the context or history. And we need to unravel core requirements, the ones that are so obvious to users that they are never expressed.

  • Designing the solution. It must streamline existing business processes, ease everyone’s daily life, and comply with constraints.

  • Developing and delivering the technical parts. The most obvious step of IT projects, which needs to be properly coordinated to overcome the risk of delay.

…and throughout the entire process: planning, leading meetings, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.

To successfully complete a project, it is not simply a matter of carrying out all these activities. It is a matter of making sure that these activities remain consistent with each other and that they are in line with the project's objectives and constraints.

At Discngine, this is the responsibility of the Delivery Manager.

He or she is involved in most of the project’s activities, making sure that the project team will deliver on promises made.

Our approach to Delivery Management

To achieve this, we rely on several pillars:

Each project is approached with a problem-solving mindset, that puts the resolution of the expectations before the choice of a technology or a solution. We are very proud of this quote from one of our clients: “I’m using [Discngine] as a definition of good for what developers should do in terms of developing the right solution, by refining and questioning”.

We use agile frameworks to deliver as soon and as often as possible so that we get more feedback on what we develop. For instance, we regularly use SCRUM as the project management methodology. And even if we do not, we keep its principle of demoing the app to users on a regular basis, which allows them to give feedback.

We employ dual-skilled people (science & informatics) that will understand the final use of what they are creating, thus ensuring relevant work. 85% of Discngine employees own a degree in Bio-informatics or Chemo-informatics. The remaining 15% being specialized in one of the two disciplines.

We are guided by a core set of values giving our customers confidence that we are worthy of their trust.
Our many experiences of collaborations and co-developments (Novartis, Abbvie...) testify to our ability to go beyond the simple client-service provider relationship.

Our approach to Delivery Management is highly appreciated by our customers. Indeed, in the last 2 years, more than 60% of them have worked with us on 2 or more projects, with an average of 3.3 projects per customer!
