Ideation SAR Slides Gets Patent Searches with GOSTAR™ Integration

Patent searches are a key step in drug design. Whether you’re exploring the “state of the art” at the start of a project, evaluating a newly identified hit, or selecting a lead compound, these searches are essential. They provide inspiration, deliver in-depth knowledge, and—most importantly—help avoid property overlaps early on, which can prevent major issues later.

These are just some of the reasons why early, thorough, and regular patent searches are a fundamental part of a medicinal chemist’s workflow.

However, performing these operations is not always straightforward. It often requires leaving your main working environment, creating a (often complex) query in another system, and then exporting the data, sometimes, into a third application for analysis.

Having an integrated workflow that eliminates the need to switch tools and ensures a smooth data flow between search and analysis makes this critical step far more efficient.

Discngine Ideation SAR Slide: “Import Patent Data” search function

Thanks to our collaboration with Excelra, the latest update to Ideation SAR Slides enables faster and smoother patent data import and exploration. Customers of Discngine’s Ideation SAR Slides application and Excelra’s GOSTAR™ database can now simply retrieve patent data by entering a Patent ID via “Import Patent Data” search function in SAR Slides (see video at the end of this article).

The system retrieves the corresponding dataset from its secure local copy of the latest GOSTAR™ database. Users have access to all patent compounds and their properties ready for analysis, just like any other dataset in the SAR Slides application.

At this point, the next question comes up: “Where do I start?” or better, “From which scaffold or compound should I start analyzing this patent I’m not familiar with?”

To help, the new “Suggested Starting Point” feature provides ranked compound suggestions based on a scoring system (learn more about the feature here: Compound Suggestions Documentation).

Whether you’re analyzing compounds (MMP analysis) or scaffolds (for R-Group Deconvolution), these suggestions provide a solid starting point for your analysis.
